Immobiliser Repair Birmingham
If the immobiliser light flashes and the engine will not start, the car is not recognising the key. Causes include a failed transponder, antenna ring, ECU communication or a low battery. We diagnose and repair so the car starts normally.
When you need this
- Security light flashing, no start
- Key not recognised
- After battery or ECU replacement
How it works
- Describe what happens and when.
- We test battery, charging, wiring and modules.
- We repair or replace only what is proven faulty.
- Everything is tested again before we leave.
In detail
We start by reading the immobiliser module for fault codes, which tells us whether the car is failing to see the key or failing to talk to its own ECU. Then we test the key’s transponder chip — the tiny chip inside the key that the car reads — and the antenna ring around the ignition barrel that picks up its signal. A weak car battery is a surprisingly common cause of lockouts, so we check that too. Key faults are usually straightforward; ECU communication faults need deeper diagnosis.
Questions about immobiliser repair
My immobiliser light is flashing and the car won’t start — what do I do?
Don’t keep cranking it — that won’t help and can flatten the battery. The car is not recognising the key, which can be the key’s chip, the antenna ring, or the car’s ECU. Call us with your reg and we diagnose it on site.
How do I know if it’s the key or the car?
We test both, because the fix is completely different. We read the key’s transponder signal and check what the car’s immobiliser module is reporting. If the key is dead we can cut and program a new one; if the car is at fault we repair the module, wiring or antenna.
The car stopped recognising the key after a battery change — why?
This is common. Disconnecting the battery can wipe the learned key data on some models, or a new battery fitted with the ignition on can spike the immobiliser module. We re-sync the keys to the car and check the module is healthy, usually without new parts.
Can you program a new key if mine is faulty?
Yes, in the same visit. Once we have confirmed the key is the problem, we cut and program a replacement on site and test it in the door, ignition and remote before we leave. We verify your ownership and ID first, as always.
Will an immobiliser fault flatten my battery?
The fault itself won’t, but repeated failed starting attempts will. Each crank draws heavy current. If the immobiliser light is flashing, stop trying after two or three attempts and call us — a flat battery on top of the fault only complicates the diagnosis.
Is it the immobiliser or the starter motor?
The dashboard tells you: a flashing key or padlock symbol means the immobiliser is blocking the start, while a silent or clicking start with no warning light points to the battery or starter. If you are unsure, describe the lights when you call and we will point you to the right fix.
